The Seat flats are part of the area’s industrial past and the Arboreda Gardens are now fully established as urban gardens.
Biodiversity
In the middle of a round gallery there is a variety of trees that includes common ash (Fraxinus excelsior), a Lebanon cedar (Cedrus libani) and poplars (Populus nigra piramidalis).
The square offers river oaks (Casuarina cunninghamiana) and pink sirises (Albizia julibrissin). The parterres have peppercorn trees (Schinus molle), ombus (Phytolacca dioica), plane trees (Platanus acerifolia) and honey locusts (Gleditsia triacanthos inermis).
There are also grey poplars (Populus canadienses Moensch) and pine trees (Pinus pinea). The play area is surrounded by ash trees (Fraxinus excelsior), jacarandas (Jacaranda mimosifolia) and plane trees (Platanus acerifolia).
And a ramp leaving the square is lined with ash trees and ngaio (Myoporum laetum), a tree native to New Zealand.
Here the gardens continue with small parterres containing palm trees (Washingtonia robusta), dwarf palms (Chamaerops humilis), pagoda trees (Styphnolobium japonicum) and black locusts (Robinia pseudoacacia piramidalis).
